Andy Burnham, mayor of Greater Manchester, has been proclaimed new leader of the Labour Party, replacing Keir Starmer, and is set to become Prime Minister in the coming days. In his first speech he declared he is ready and wants to change the United Kingdom, promising to give hope back to the British people.

According to reports, Burnham announced an economic shift and greater devolution of powers to the regions, as well as a commitment to a united Labour Party in the face of Nigel Farage's advance. These specific political elements are not however confirmed by all sources.

Burnham, previously nicknamed "king of the North," succeeds Starmer as party leader after a period marked, according to some accounts, by over forty years of political and economic paths that the new leader intends to overcome.
