Ann Widdecombe, former British Conservative MP and later Brexit Party MEP, has died at the age of 78. A murder investigation has been opened. British police have arrested a 26-year-old white male in connection with the case. According to the police, the suspect is not believed to have acted for political motives.

Widdecombe had been a prominent figure in British Euroscepticism. A former minister in the Conservative government, she later joined Nigel Farage's Brexit Party and in recent years was associated with Reform UK.

The circumstances of the death remain under investigation.
