The main suspect in the Berlin Pride attack was found and killed by police during an operation in the Spandau district. According to a statement from the Berlin police, around 6 p.m. the suspect was located in a complex of urban gardens (Kleingartenanlage) in the Spandau area. According to information gathered so far, the man charged at intervention forces with a bladed weapon, prompting officers from Berlin's SEK unit to open fire. Despite resuscitation measures immediately started by Berlin firefighters, the suspect died at the scene.

The suspect was a 21-year-old man named Abdul Ballout, already known to authorities as an Islamist threat and described as radicalized. After hours of intensive manhunt, police located and neutralized him.

The attack took place on Saturday evening at the Großer Tiergarten during a Pride parade. One woman was killed and at least 29 people were injured. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that everything suggests it was an Islamist-motivated terrorist attack. According to reports, the suspect claimed inspiration from the Islamic State.

Iris Spranger, Berlin's senator for the interior, thanked the security forces for quickly locating the attacker, calling it an extraordinary result. Helicopters were deployed over the area during the operation.

Political reactions included statements from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who spoke out against hate and extremism, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who urged not to let the attack divide society.
