Luigi De Laurentiis, former sole administrator of SSC Bari, and his father Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of the Napoli board of directors and legal representative of Filmauro, have been placed under investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bari. The charges concern false corporate communications related to the 2024 financial statement of Bari Calcio and fraudulent bankruptcy connected to the request for judicial liquidation of the club, filed due to the insolvency of the Bari-based sports company.

Searches were carried out at the offices of Filmauro in Rome and at Napoli's premises. According to Repubblica, the debts underlying the bankruptcy request amount to approximately 30 million euros.

The investigation focuses on the transfer of goalkeeper Elia Caprile. According to what was reported by the investigators, Bari purchased Caprile's registration from English club Leeds FC, having recognized bonuses linked to a possible future resale, and then sold him to Napoli in July 2023 for 2.2 million euros, without any clause for participation in future capital gains. Caprile was subsequently sold to Cagliari for approximately 8 million euros.

SSC Bari, SSC Napoli, Aurelio and Luigi De Laurentiis issued a statement saying they learned of the allegations with astonishment and stated that the value of Caprile had been quantified through a sworn appraisal prepared by an independent professional, previously a consultant for the judicial authority, before the transfer was completed. The club also expressed surprise at the request for judicial liquidation, stating that the company's operating losses, described as physiological in the football sector, are systematically covered by the ownership's own resources. The statement concludes by expressing confidence that their position will be quickly clarified before the competent judicial authority, hoping for a prompt dismissal of the proceedings.
