Following the fire that struck the BRT (Bartolini) depot in the Milan Bovisa area, the Milan Prosecutor's Office has opened a case for arson against unknown persons. The investigation is coordinated by prosecutor Marcello Viola and DDA prosecutor Paolo Storari. The charge was formulated as a precautionary measure to ascertain, and eventually rule out, that the fire was an attack or sabotage.

According to preliminary information, the fire reportedly started from a package loaded on a truck bound for Turin. After being loaded into the container, smoke first emanated from the package, followed by flames. The warehouse manager reported having seen a flash after a package fell. The truck has been placed under seizure and toxicological analyses are underway.

Two workers, despite the flames, continued to detach trailers from the building's doors, preventing them from being engulfed. The provincial commander of the fire department, Mauro Caciolai, expressed appreciation for the workers' actions, which prevented more extensive damage. In total, about a dozen vehicles were completely burned, while more than double that number escaped the flames.

Firefighters rotated without interruption until the fire was declared extinguished. The area surrounding the depot includes another freight forwarder, an IT company, the railway, the Bovisa campus of the Politecnico di Milano, and a restaurant, as well as fuel deposits located in the goods handling zone.
