The 2027 edition of the Pirelli Calendar, known as The Cal, is dedicated to India and portrays nine successful Indian women who carry the identity of their country around the world. The project is signed by Avani Rai, daughter of photographer Raghu Rai, who passed away in April and had started this work, entrusting it to his daughter. Avani Rai is also one of the figures portrayed in the photographs. Alongside her worked Norwegian photographer Sølve Sundsbø, already the author of the Pirelli Calendar 2026. The visual narrative moves through metropolises, villages, and new generations, celebrating the complexity of India through its many colors and contrasts. The backstage photographs were taken by Alessandro Scotti. India is one of the youngest countries in the world, with an average age below 30 and about 40 percent of the population under 25, yet it retains an ancient social structure in which gender inequalities remain an open issue, despite government initiatives.
