Florentine actor Massimo Ceccherini had accumulated gambling debts totalling approximately 1 million 400 thousand euros. A friend donated 300 thousand euros to help settle the debt. According to several newspapers, the donor is director Matteo Garrone, a report attributed to Corriere della Sera and picked up by other outlets; news agencies limited themselves to referring to a friend without naming him.

Ceccherini will repay what is owed by paying 500 euros a month over a period of 4 years. Il Giornale specifies that the debt was owed to the tax authorities, a detail not confirmed by other sources.
