Fuel prices in Italy have risen significantly again. According to a regional map compiled by the consumer association Codacons, diesel prices have reached peaks of up to 2.7 euros per liter in some areas, with Milan reported among the worst-affected cities. At the national level, other surveys indicate average diesel prices above 2.1 euros per liter.

Codacons has issued a warning about the impact on families departing for summer holidays and has called for urgent measures, including a new cut to excise taxes. The consumer association published a regional ranking of price hikes to highlight territorial differences.

Regarding the causes of the increase, some analysts attribute the rise to tensions in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This interpretation is not, however, confirmed by all sources, which focus on price data without attributing specific geopolitical causes.
