A drone struck a residential building in the center of Sumy, causing the collapse of part of the structure. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the attack killed four people and wounded 27, including children. Among the victims was a one-year-old girl. Zelensky stated that guided aerial bombs were used in the strike and that people may still be trapped under the rubble. The attack on Sumy occurred within the context of a broader wave of Russian strikes on Ukrainian territory. In the same hours, the capital Kiev was also hit, with casualty figures varying across sources: between 27 and over 30 dead and between 85 and over 90 wounded. The United Nations condemned the attacks on Kiev. The different tolls reflect the provisional nature of the counts still underway. Russia, for its part, reported a Ukrainian missile strike on Belgorod, in which one woman was killed. Moscow also claimed to have taken full control of the city of Kostjantynivka, in the Donetsk region. On the diplomatic front, NATO allies reached an understanding on continued support for Ukraine, while a new summit of the coalition of the willing is scheduled for July 13 and 14 in Paris. Uncertainty remains regarding a possible summit involving the United States.
