Two riders lost their lives in a crash during the Alpe Adria Motorcycle Championship at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic. The victims were Austrian Philipp Steinmayr, aged 32, and Romanian Adrian Rus, aged 43. Some sources refer to the Romanian rider by the surname Rus-Sinner. The incident occurred during the Stk1000/Sbk race. According to reconstructions reported by several outlets, Steinmayr was forced to stop on the track due to a technical problem shortly after the start. In those moments Rus arrived and was unable to avoid the collision. The Austrian rider died at the scene of the accident, while the 43-year-old Romanian was transported to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. Adrian Rus was also known outside of competition as a motorcycle vlogger followed by many two-wheel enthusiasts. Following the incident the organizers decided to cancel the remainder of the weekend's racing program. All scheduled competitions were called off, including the Supersport 300 European Cup, the Supersport 600 European Cup, the Superstock 1000 European Cup and the Women's European Championship. Official confirmation of the tragedy came through a joint statement released by the bodies involved in organizing the event: the European Motorcycling Federation (FIM Europe), the Alpe Adria Motorcycling Union, the Academy (promoter of the competition), the Romanian Motorcycling Federation, the Balkan Motorcycling Union and the Brno Autodrome, expressing their most sincere condolences to the families, friends and all those close to the two athletes.
