At the European swimming and aquatic sports championships currently underway in Paris, Italian athlete Andrea Barnaba won the silver medal in the men's high diving final, a discipline involving dives from 20 meters. Barnaba finished the competition with a total of 386 points, behind Romanian Catalin Petru Preda, who took gold with 411.60 points thanks also to a final dive worth 145 points. The bronze medal went to French athlete Gary Hunt.

Barnaba was leading the overall standings after the first two of the four scheduled dives, before relinquishing first place to the Romanian over the subsequent rounds. The Italian, who placed sixth at last year's world championships, stated that the silver medal won earlier that same morning by his girlfriend Elisa Cosetti in the women's event gave him additional motivation.

Elisa Cosetti also won silver in high diving, improving on her result from four years ago, when at the European championships in Rome she earned bronze in her first appearance at an international competition.

The two Italian athletes, who are a couple in their private life, both reached the second step of the podium in the same discipline at the same edition of the championships.
