Lando Norris on McLaren claimed pole position in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the eleventh round of the Formula 1 World Championship. Norris edged out Charles Leclerc, who secured second place on the grid with Ferrari, following grid penalties handed to two drivers.

Lewis Hamilton, Leclerc's teammate at Ferrari, was penalized three grid positions for impeding Oscar Piastri during Q3. The penalty drops the British driver from second to fifth place. The same three-place penalty was applied to Kimi Antonelli, found guilty of not slowing sufficiently under yellow flag conditions at turn 14 during Q3. The championship leader will start seventh.

Behind Norris and Leclerc, Oscar Piastri on McLaren and Max Verstappen on Red Bull line up on the second row. Completing the top ten are Hadjar, Lindblad, and Hulkenberg. According to one of the sources, George Russell also featured in the Q3 classification, with his Mercedes reportedly stopping on track, alongside Isack Hadjar in the second Red Bull.

For Norris this represents the seventeenth pole position of his career. According to one source, McLaren also reached its tenth pole at the Budapest circuit, matching a record. After qualifying, Norris stated he was very happy to be back on top, describing the session as difficult and acknowledging Ferrari's speed. The driver also mentioned some technical updates brought by the team.

Charles Leclerc, while satisfied with the result, stated he did not feel at his best during the day and that he tried to make the most of a situation where he felt at a disadvantage compared to his teammate.
