During Question Time at the Chamber of Deputies with the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, Forza Italia MP and party economic coordinator Maurizio Casasco called for the extension of the administrative simplification model adopted under the ZES (Special Economic Zones) to the areas of Central and Northern Italy.

Casasco specified that the request concerns only the simplification of administrative and authorization procedures, not economic incentives, and therefore would not affect support for the Mezzogiorno. He described the measure as cost-free and asked that it be brought before the Council of Ministers as soon as possible, without waiting until January 2027.

According to Casasco, administrative simplification represents the real incentive that can be offered to industrial areas of the North, in order to reduce bureaucracy, establish a single authorization center, and speed up response times. He also argued that simplification is necessary to prevent the risk of deindustrialization in the most productive areas and to strengthen business competitiveness, new investments, and employment.

Casasco added that any future economic incentives should be directed toward strategic sectors capable of driving growth, citing artificial intelligence, quantum computers, semiconductors, digitalized mechanics, and data centers as an integrated strategic architecture for advanced-technology investments.

The ZES, Special Economic Zones, are areas subject to tax and administrative benefits aimed at stimulating economic development, currently applied to regions of Southern Italy.
