Two elderly people died on the evening of Saturday, July 18, in a fire that broke out in an apartment of a six-story building in Via Padre Placido Riccardi, in the Cimiano neighborhood, in eastern Milan. The bodies of a man and a woman were found inside the apartment on the sixth floor of the building. According to reconstructions, the woman was not self-sufficient and the man is believed to be her husband. The identities of the victims were not known in the hours immediately following the event.

The fire developed shortly after 7:30 PM. Six fire trucks responded to the scene, along with police and local police. The entire building was evacuated: several families remained outside waiting for rescue teams to confirm the safety of the structure. Two other people were intoxicated by smoke.

The causes of the fire are currently under investigation. Investigators and firefighters will need to determine the origin of the blaze. The prosecutor on duty ordered the seizure of the apartment to allow forensic teams to carry out their examination.
