A 73-year-old man was arrested on charges of attempted murder and multiple road injuries in Lanzo Torinese, on the road toward Coassolo, after hitting a group of six cyclists twice following a traffic-related argument. Four of the six cyclists, who had set off in the morning from San Mauro, Settimo Torinese and San Raffaele Cimena for a group ride, suffered multiple traumas and fractures.

According to the initial reconstruction of events, the episode stemmed from a dispute between the driver and the cyclists. The man behind the wheel allegedly hit the group a first time and, after driving away, returned and struck them again. Investigations by the carabinieri, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Ivrea, are ongoing to clarify the precise dynamics of the two collisions and the causes of the argument.

Emergency services were coordinated by the 118 operations center. Two of the four injured were transported by helicopter to the CTO in Turin, where one remains in reserved prognosis. The other two were transferred to San Giovanni Bosco hospital. The remaining two cyclists in the group were uninjured.

The man was taken to the carabinieri barracks by officers from the Compagnia di Venaria and the local station, and was placed under house arrest by order of the judicial authority. According to one initial account the driver was tracked down by law enforcement; according to another he turned himself in voluntarily. This point remains to be clarified during the investigation.
