Journalist Mario Calabresi has stated he is evaluating a possible candidacy for mayor of Milan in the upcoming municipal elections, scheduled for 2027. His remarks were made during a debate at the Festa dell'Unità Milano Sud-Est, in response to journalist Francesca Martelli.

«Running? To the many people who ask me on the street, I answer that yes, I am thinking about it. I am thinking about it and I would like to do my part for Milan, I care about it», Calabresi said. He however clarified that the path toward a possible candidacy is not yet defined: «There is a path that is not delineated, regarding how one will get there, whether there will be primaries or not, and all of this we will understand after the summer. I am in respectful waiting to understand what will be decided, what kind of path will be decided, and whether there will be a possibility».

The statement follows rumors that had circulated in the preceding days, which Calabresi himself confirmed. The current mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, had previously commented on the hypothesis, describing Calabresi as a «person of high standing». The 2027 elections will mark a change of leadership for the city, at the end of Sala's term.
