Mario Orfeo leaves the direction of Repubblica and takes on the role of Editorial Director at QN Media. In his new position, he will work alongside the publisher Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio and the CEO. The decision was communicated today to the publisher and the newsroom of the newspaper.

Gedi, the group that publishes Repubblica, issued a statement according to which the story of Repubblica continues in the tradition of its history, without providing further details on the timing of the transition.

According to Il Giornale, the names of Fittipaldi and Tito are among the first to emerge for the new direction of Repubblica, with Pini reportedly confirmed. The same source also mentions a possible television project within the new course of the Gedi group. These elements have not been confirmed by other sources.

Il Giornale also reports that 178 journalists of Repubblica voted a motion of no confidence in Mario Orfeo, citing concerns over a conflict of interest following the announcement of his move to the Del Vecchio group starting in September. The vote, reportedly approved by a large majority, took place after the announcement of the transfer.

Orfeo had led the direction of Repubblica after previously serving as director of TG1.
