On the afternoon of Saturday, July 4, in Milan, a couple of American tourists was assaulted and robbed near the Duomo station, at the corner of via Fosse Ardeatine and via Zecca Vecchia, in front of the carabinieri barracks. Two young men attacked the couple from behind while they were standing and looking at their phone. One of the two targeted the man's wrist, snatching his watch and throwing him to the ground; the wife attempted to intervene.

The carabinieri, who observed the assault in real time through the barracks' surveillance cameras, immediately went out into the street and apprehended one of the two attackers, an 18-year-old born in Spain of North African origin. The accomplice managed to escape, taking the watch with him, with an estimated value of approximately 500 euros.

The arrested individual was charged with complicity in robbery. During the arrest he fell to the ground, sustaining minor abrasions and a head trauma: he was taken to the Policlinico with a green code and subsequently transferred to San Vittore prison. The two victims, shaken and with some injuries, declined medical treatment.

The incident also drew political reactions: League leader Matteo Salvini commented on the episode, stating that those who sow fear must pay dearly.
