Cristiano Giamporcaro, a 29-year-old filmmaker from Caltanissetta, died in the waters of Punta Sottile, Lampedusa, while scuba diving. According to initial reconstructions, Giamporcaro was struck by the propellers of a rubber dinghy navigating in the area with two tourists on board. The young man had entered the water signaling his position with a buoy. A young woman who was with him had previously chosen to return to shore.

The body of the 29-year-old was recovered by a Coast Guard unit, assisted by a private vessel specialized in recovery operations. The dynamics of the accident have not yet been fully clarified: questions remain about the distance of the dinghy from the diver and the visibility of the buoy used to signal his position.

The Agrigento Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation on suspicion of nautical homicide against the boat's owners. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the precise cause of death. Investigators are reconstructing the events to ascertain any criminal responsibility.
