Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the violence against law enforcement in Bologna unacceptable, while simultaneously requesting that any responsibilities related to Fakir's death be ascertained with the utmost rigor. The truth must be pursued to the end, without concessions, the prime minister stated.

The leader of Italia Viva and other political figures also called for the truth to be established, describing attacks on officers as inadmissible. Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein stated that the State has failed and that the State itself must shed full light on what happened.

According to data reported by the press, the first six months of 2026 saw an increase in officers injured on duty. News outlets reported over 60 injuries among law enforcement linked to the Bologna riots.

The case has sparked a debate on methods of restraining individuals experiencing psychiatric distress. Commentators have called for a reassuring approach and psychiatric expertise rather than intimidatory measures, stressing that crisis management should be entrusted to specialized operators and not solely to police forces. The issue of training for both officers and healthcare workers on restraint techniques and the proportionality of intervention has also been raised.

Bologna mayor Matteo Lepore stated that only a public square represents the city, referring to the demonstrations.
