The Municipio Roma IX and the Campus Bio-Medico University have renewed the Protocollo di intesa "Alleanza per la sostenibilità integrale" for the 2026-2029 period, aimed at continuing collaboration on initiatives of general interest and social benefit for young people, the elderly, children, and local residents. The agreement covers areas including healthy lifestyle promotion, health prevention, scientific outreach and STEM education, volunteering, environmental protection, sport, health, and sustainable mobility. The stated goal is to foster projects related to human ecology, integral sustainability, social inclusion, environmental protection, and intergenerational dialogue, within a public-private partnership framework. A social report titled "Trigoria and the Campus Bio-Medico of Rome," produced in 2025 by the Campus and presented to the Municipio IX, highlights that the Trigoria neighborhood has significant potential but residents are seeking more services, social spaces, and better transport connections to the city centre. The report indicates that cooperation between the Municipio IX and the Campus Bio-Medico represents a concrete opportunity for local development. Among the recent initiatives that have become operational is the Campus Bio-Medico Pharmacy, inaugurated in 2024 within the policlinic square, which launched the Social Card project in partnership with the Municipio IX. Active since March 2025, the initiative provides vouchers for economically vulnerable citizens and families, in collaboration with the Welfare Office of the Municipio IX. In 2026, as part of the "Social Green Masterplan" development programme extending to 2045, the Campus Bio-Medico inaugurated the Agri Research and Teaching Center, a multifunctional facility dedicated to agritech research and innovation. The center spans approximately 2,000 square metres dedicated to experimental aquaponic, hydroponic, and phytotronic chamber crops, and is open to young people and local schools for inclusion, training, and orientation projects. During the protocol signing event, a guided tour was held of the Campus Bio-Medico Simulation Center, located within the Cubo teaching building. Described as the only facility of its kind in Italy, the center covers over 400 square metres and features modular environments that can be configured for different teaching needs, including a resuscitation room, a surgical room, an outpatient room, a multisensory immersive room, and simulators for clinical training and device evaluation. The facility integrates advanced technologies including robotics and artificial intelligence. The event also included the inauguration of the ClicBus service in Trigoria, a flexible on-demand public transport service provided by ATAC with technical support from Roma Servizi per la Mobilità. Active in Trigoria since 6 July, the service operates in nine low-density areas of the city and is designed to facilitate customized travel. The Campus Bio-Medico university, its policlinic emergency department, and the Alberto Sordi Foundation day center for frail elderly residents fall within the ClicBus coverage area. The protocol signing also provided an opportunity to discuss the future of urban peripheries, a topic addressed during a recent hearing of the Campus Bio-Medico before the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into security conditions and urban degradation, held at the Chamber of Deputies on 23 June. The hearing highlighted the strategic role that universities, healthcare, and research can play in urban and social regeneration of peripheral areas. Eugenio Patanè, Mobility Councillor for Roma Capitale, stated that the presence of the Campus Bio-Medico in the Municipio IX territory represents a valuable opportunity also from a mobility perspective, enabling stable dialogue with an institution that provides public-interest services to thousands of students, professionals, patients, and citizens daily. He described the on-demand public transport initiative as opening the way toward increasingly sustainable mobility that becomes part of quality of life and the polycentric development of the city. Titti Di Salvo, President of Municipio Roma IX, described the protocol as a continuation of a path focused on the future of the community, allowing the combination of skills and experiences to provide concrete responses to local needs. She emphasized that the Campus Bio-Medico serves as a model of a civic university capable of transferring knowledge and contributing to the public good. Domenico Mastrolitto, Director General of Campus Bio-Medico SpA, stated that the renewal of the protocol confirms the shared will to continue the collaboration, strengthening commitment to the territory and local development with a focus on individuals and their needs. He suggested that Trigoria and surrounding areas can increasingly become a laboratory for urban and social regeneration, integrating economic and employment development with environmental protection and safety.
