A large fire is affecting the city of Drammen, approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Oslo. According to Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, the flames have already destroyed over 100 homes, spreading rapidly to townhouses and surrounding land driven by strong winds. Firefighters have not yet managed to bring the blaze under control. Several hundred people have been evacuated. At present there are no casualties among residents; one firefighter sustained minor injuries and some people have been placed under health observation. Explosions were heard in the area during the early phases of the emergency. Six helicopters are engaged in firefighting operations. The fire in Norway is part of a broader pattern of wildfires affecting several areas of Europe. In Spain, a fire that broke out near Zaragoza, in Aragon, has already affected over 12,000 hectares, with regional authorities warning of a high risk of further spread due to wind.
