The European Central Bank has launched the final phase of the euro banknote redesign process, presenting ten design proposals now subject to public consultation. The ECB's final decision is expected by the end of the year.

The new finalist sketches propose figures linked to European culture: among the recurring names are Maria Callas, Leonardo da Vinci, and Ludwig van Beethoven. The redesign marks a departure from the current banknotes, introduced approximately 25 years ago, which feature generic bridges and architecture without identifiable figures.

ECB President Christine Lagarde presented the proposals, describing them as a celebration of European culture. The ten proposals will be evaluated through a consultation process before the final selection of the designs that will enter circulation.
