A man lost his life after diving into the Tagliamento River to rescue his two daughters, who had been swept away by the current while bathing. The incident occurred shortly before 4 PM on Saturday, July 11, in Ronchis, near Latisana, in the province of Udine. The family was spending the day on the riverbank together with two other families to celebrate an occasion, when the two girls were suddenly carried off by the current. Both parents intervened to save them: the mother and the two daughters were rescued by firefighters, though one of the girls was in serious condition and was treated by an air rescue medical team. The father, however, did not resurface. His body was recovered only hours later by divers from Venice and Trieste, with the support of a Drago helicopter and an inflatable boat from the Portogruaro team. According to the Carabinieri of the Latisana company, the family is originally from Azerbaijan and was on the riverbank with two other Azerbaijani families. The alarm was raised by passersby who noticed the family in difficulty. Upon arrival, firefighters first rescued the woman and the two girls, and only later learned that a man was also missing in the river. The Sores operations center dispatched the helicopter, an auto-medical vehicle, and an ambulance to the scene.
