Search efforts continue for Muschio, a 15-year-old goat missing for three days from the Chico Mendes Refuge in Campi Bisenzio, province of Florence. The sanctuary, covering approximately 16 hectares within a park, shelters animals rescued from exploitation, mistreatment, or abandonment. Muschio had lived at the refuge for five years.

Last Saturday the animal did not return to its stable, as it normally did every evening. Given the goat's age and the high temperatures of recent days, volunteers initially feared a health episode within the refuge grounds. The 16 hectares of the sanctuary and surrounding areas were searched both on foot and with a thermal drone, with no trace of the animal found.

The lack of findings led the refuge managers to hypothesize that Muschio may have left the sanctuary grounds. During perimeter inspections, several damaged sections of the fence were identified, likely due to weather events in recent years that can cause tree falls and fence damage, requiring constant monitoring and repair work.

A report came in on Sunday: Muschio was allegedly sighted near Villa Caruso, in Lastra a Signa, in a wooded area. Volunteers went to the site, but the terrain features made operations difficult. The owner of a nearby house reported initially thinking the spotted animal was his own goat, smaller in size but with a similar coat. The person who filed the report, however, confirmed having seen a goat with long horns, consistent with Muschio's features. A second report from Signa was found to be unrelated after verification. Volunteers distributed flyers in the Villa Caruso area to gather any testimony from residents, without further confirmation.

The Chico Mendes Refuge filed a report with the Carabinieri of Campi Bisenzio regarding the animal's disappearance, requesting that both the hypothesis of it getting lost and that of possible removal by unknown persons be considered. The appeal to the public remains open: anyone with useful information, particularly in the Lastra a Signa area but also in other locations in the province of Florence, is asked to contact the refuge at 338 2577561 and 392 0983576 or through the association's social media pages.
