Lieutenant Antonio, known as Commander Alfa and founder of the Carabinieri's Gruppo di Intervento Speciale (GIS), has died at the age of 75. The announcement was made through the social media page dedicated to him.

Antonio had devoted over forty years of his life to service in the Carabinieri, working to counter terrorism and organized crime. Among his documented missions was participation in the capture of those responsible for the kidnapping of Cesare Casella, as well as the assignment of protecting magistrate Nino Di Matteo.

According to RaiNews, Lieutenant Antonio was reportedly the most decorated carabiniere in Italy, a claim not corroborated by other consulted sources and therefore requiring verification.
