A wildfire near Madrid has forced the evacuation of residents and caused damage to homes. Carlos Novillo, head of emergency management for the Madrid regional government, stated that the fire has reached its peak and currently exceeds the capacity of firefighters to contain it. The regional prefect, Francisco Martin Aguirre, described the situation as very complicated due to strong winds, warning that the wind is expected to persist and the fire could continue to spread through the evening. He did not rule out further evacuations and confinements.

According to available reports, the number of people evacuated or confined stands at approximately 40,000, though some sources cite figures exceeding 60,000. Spain has reportedly declared a state of national emergency. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is expected to visit the emergency coordination center in the municipality of Cenicientos, accompanied by Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, for an emergency meeting.

Spain has recorded 22 large wildfires this year, classified as those burning more than 500 hectares of territory.

The situation is also serious in France, where major fires are affecting the Gironde and Landes departments. According to French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, more than 10,000 hectares have burned and around 40,000 people have been evacuated in that area. Other sources report that the total number of evacuees in France has reached approximately 110,000 over two days. The Cap Ferret peninsula has also been affected, with hundreds of people evacuated by sea.

Firefighting teams are deployed on the ground to contain the spread of the flames in both countries.
