The Turin Prosecutor's Office has requested house arrest for a police officer from the Reparto Mobile in connection with the injury of a fan before the Torino-Juventus derby on May 24, 2026. The injured person is Marco Leonardo Basoccu, a 36-year-old Juventus supporter who was hospitalized in intensive care at Turin's Molinette hospital and discharged about a month after the incident. According to prosecutors, the officer fired a tear gas canister at human height, striking the fan. Chief prosecutor Giovanni Bombardieri and deputy Paolo Scafi described the evidentiary framework as grave. The investigation reportedly advanced thanks to video footage of the clashes and testimony from the officer's own colleagues, who helped reconstruct the trajectory of the canister directed at Basoccu. According to La Stampa, five tear gas canisters were fired from a distance of about 30 meters. On the morning of July 3, the officer appeared before the judge for preliminary investigations at the Turin court for questioning, facing a charge of aggravated injuries. The officer's defense attorney stated that the officer answered the questions posed to him. In the coming days, the judge will decide whether to grant or reject the prosecutors' request for house arrest. After his discharge from the hospital, Basoccu stated he was tired but feeling well and thanked the medical staff. He also said he had no clear memory of the moments before his injury and was trying to reconstruct events piece by piece, distinguishing between what actually happened and visions he had while hospitalized.
