US President Donald Trump attended the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, his second gala appearance with journalists after the previous edition was interrupted due to an assassination attempt. During his speech, Trump joked about the possibility of an additional presidential term, stating that "the second time was better than the first, and the third will be better still." A third term is however barred by the Twenty-Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. According to Editoriale Domani, the president also mentioned his intention to run for a fourth time.

Trump further criticized the journalists in attendance, saying he only hears "fake news," and reaffirmed his administration's position on Iran, declaring that Tehran will never obtain nuclear weapons. The president also attacked some political opponents during his remarks.

During the evening, the Wall Street Journal received an award for an investigation into the relationship between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. The dinner included entertainment moments, with the participation of artists including Nicki Minaj.
