The European Union has opened 27 infringement procedures against all member states for non-compliance with the directive on energy performance of buildings, commonly referred to as the green homes directive. The news was reported by multiple Italian outlets and confirmed by statements from former minister and ex-mayor of Milan Letizia Moratti, who noted that the European Commission extended the procedure to every member country.

No EU government has so far fully transposed the directive into national law, which is the reason for the simultaneous opening of infringement procedures across the bloc. The directive, part of the broader European Green Deal package, sets new requirements for improving the energy efficiency of residential and commercial buildings.

Forza Italia issued a statement criticizing the directive, saying it was designed without taking reality into account. The party called for a reconsideration of the rules to make them more compatible with national contexts and implementation timelines.
