A rally in defense of Mario Roggero, a jeweler sentenced to 14 years and 9 months for the killing of two robbers, was held in Milan. The event, promoted on social media as a national gathering and expecting around 150-200 attendees, resulted in only the organizer, Stefania Caiafa, founder of the association Avanguardia animalista, being present. Caiafa arrived on corso Venezia with a megaphone and a sign reading Freedom for Mario Roggero. Some thirty officers from the State Police, local police and Digos were deployed at the location awaiting participants who never arrived. According to press reports, a passerby confronted the organizer over the deployment of police forces, accusing her of burdening public spending. Caiafa reportedly replied that she was present as a citizen, arguing that Roggero had acted in a state of mental exhaustion caused by repeated robberies and that he deserved a pardon or sentence reduction. The organizer also criticized right-wing political forces, accusing them of not participating in the initiative.
