The Milan Prosecutor's Office has issued Daniela Santanchè, a former tourism minister and Fratelli d'Italia lawmaker, with a notice concluding the preliminary investigation into the bankruptcies of Ki Group, Ki Group Holding, Bioera, and Umbria Srl. The alleged offenses include several forms of bankruptcy-related misconduct, false accounting, and aggravated fraud against the state. According to prosecutors, Invitalia, the public agency for business development, was allegedly defrauded of approximately €3.3 million and is listed as an injured party in the proceedings. The notice was also issued to approximately fifteen individuals and one company. According to some outlets, those under investigation include Santanchè's sister, Fiorella Garnero, and her former partner, Giovanni Canio Mazzaro. Loans obtained from Banca Progetto in connection with the corporate transactions under investigation have also come under scrutiny. The notice opens a stage during which the people under investigation may submit written defenses and request further investigative work before prosecutors decide whether to seek an indictment.
