The director of Rai Approfondimenti, Paolo Corsini, made statements to parliamentary journalists outside Montecitorio regarding the affair involving Report host Sigfrido Ranucci and entrepreneur Valter Lavitola, who is under investigation for an attack against the journalist in 2025. According to reconstructions by Corriere della Sera and Repubblica, Corsini described Ranucci as a harmed party for the time being but said he would need to clarify the matter. Corsini declared himself in favor of presumption of innocence and stated that Report will continue to air: the program is present in the next schedule and will go on regardless, potentially with another host such as Giorgio Mottola. Corsini said he had never been to lunch with Lavitola and stated that those who had a problem with Report often turned to Lavitola. He also said that when Lavitola's name emerged he immediately thought there was something strange behind it. Shortly thereafter, Corsini issued a formal statement categorically denying having granted an interview. He stated that the reported declarations do not correctly reflect his thinking and that reconstructing a purported interview using words and remarks among colleagues taken out of context undermines the core principles of the profession. In the same statement, Corsini reaffirmed that Ranucci suffered an attack, is a harmed party and a Rai asset, that the rumors circulating about Lavitola are well known, that everyone awaits the work of the judiciary, and that Report will regularly return to air next autumn. Following Corsini's initial remarks, the party Fratelli d'Italia called for an internal investigation at Rai into the affair. The political opposition on the right criticized the situation, while the network's management has so far confirmed the program's continuation.
