Paolo Zampolli, Italian-American businessman and global partnerships envoy for the White House, has announced legal action against RAI, the Report program, and its host Sigfrido Ranucci. Zampolli, known for having introduced Melania Trump to Donald Trump, is demanding 5 million euros each from RAI, Ranucci, and other individuals involved in the matter. The dispute stems from three episodes of Report broadcast between April and May, which investigated alleged ties between Zampolli, Melania Trump, and financier Jeffrey Epstein. The investigation featured testimony from Zampolli's former partner Amanda Ungaro, recorded in Brazil, a 2017 audio recording in which Zampolli allegedly described an agreement with Melania Trump, and testimony from a second woman, Victoria Drake, who accused him of sexual violence. Zampolli and his lawyer Maurizio Miculan have rejected all accusations. According to the lawyer, Ungaro's statements were refuted by the US Department of Homeland Security and are part of a custody dispute over the couple's minor son. Drake's accusations, the lawyer stated, are linked to an attempted extortion of 650,000 dollars, already reported to prosecutors in Rome, with FBI and Interpol investigating in the United States and Brazil. Zampolli claims the Report investigation was motivated by political intent, aimed at striking him in order to target Donald Trump and Melania Trump, as well as harming Italy-US relations. These allegations are contested by the other party, which has not publicly responded to the political-motivation claim. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Italian courts. Zampolli stated he has instructed his lawyer to close the mediation procedure and formally demand that RAI remove all videos and posts concerning Melania Trump and his family, and to proceed with the damage claim. Zampolli also announced his intention to file a lawsuit in the United States for reputational damages, where compensation amounts can be significantly higher. The exact figure for the US lawsuit has not yet been determined. He cited as a reference the defamation suit filed by Melania Trump against Hunter Biden, in which one billion dollars was requested. According to Zampolli, there is evidence that people interviewed by Report were paid, an allegation that, if confirmed, would raise questions about compliance with RAI's code of ethics. This claim has not been independently verified. Zampolli said his lawyer advised him to discuss the matter as little as possible due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
