The jewelry store of Mario Roggero in Grinzane Cavour, in the province of Cuneo, has reopened after being closed since July 14, the day before the final ruling of the Court of Cassation. Roggero, 72, who has owned the shop since 1980, was sentenced to 14 years and 9 months in prison for killing two robbers and injuring a third during an assault on his store in 2021.

His wife, Mariangela Sandrone, announced the reopening and stated that she still feels at risk. She also reported having visited her husband in prison for about three hours, saying that, as far as prison conditions allow, he is doing well. Sandrone expressed her opinion on the conviction, calling it absurd for a 72-year-old man who has always worked, and said she feels as if she were living in a bad dream. She finally expressed the hope that her husband could return as soon as possible, arguing that he should not be in prison.

A sign was posted outside the shop in which the family asked journalists not to request statements, thanking them for their understanding and respect for their grief. According to reports, no significant presence of onlookers or supporters was recorded outside the store.

On the legal front, Roggero's defense has reiterated its request for deferral of the sentence to the surveillance court of Milan. On the political front, League leader Matteo Salvini reiterated his position in favor of Roggero's release from prison.
