Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the TAV construction sites in Chiomonte, in Val di Susa, accompanied by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, following violent episodes that caused damages exceeding one million euros.

During the visit, Meloni described the events as "organized violence" and stated that "the State does not step back" and "does not tolerate" such acts. She also called on magistrates to "do the maximum" in addressing the situation.

Interior Minister Piantedosi emphasized the need for unity in responding to the events.

Meloni also had a telephone conversation with the local mayor, who stated that "we need Rome to help us."

Fractures of Brothers of Italy reportedly proposed introducing the recognition of an associative bond to strengthen legal tools against organized violence.

Democratic Party leader Elly Schlein responded to the events, rejecting accusations of connivance and stating that the right wing is exploiting these facts for political purposes against the opposition. The Democratic Party also criticized the Interior Ministry, describing its security policy as a failure.

The visit comes amid heightened tensions in Val di Susa, a long-running flashpoint for protests against the high-speed rail line connecting Italy and France.
