During the night between Sunday and Monday, 6 July, a Russian attack with ballistic missiles and drones struck the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. According to local authorities, at least 10 people were killed and around 40 injured, including three children. Some sources report a toll of at least 11 deaths, citing updates from medical sources reported by Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko. The attack caused damage to several residential buildings. According to Ukrainian authorities, the most severe damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts, with additional damage reported in the Holosiivskyi and Obolonskyi neighborhoods. In Podilskyi, apartments between the fifth and ninth floors of a residential building were destroyed, while in Darnytskyi a fire devastated several apartments in a 25-story building. Rescue operations continued through the morning and authorities warned that the death toll could rise. The raids also hit the region surrounding the capital. According to the head of the regional administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, one person died in areas outside Kyiv, and the attacks also affected the areas of Bucha, Vyshhorod, and Brovary. The city of Odessa was also hit during the same night, with five private homes and a dormitory reportedly damaged. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that it conducted a large-scale attack with long-range missiles and drones against military-industrial facilities and energy infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding region. According to the Russian news agency Ria Novosti, military airports in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv were also targeted. The Kyiv city prosecutor's office opened a preliminary investigation accusing the Russian army of committing a war crime that caused civilian deaths. In Poland, the government scrambled fighter jets in response to the attack. Separately, a phone call between Putin and Trump was reported, with Witkoff and Kushner reportedly willing to return to Moscow.
