Abderrahim Fakir, 42, died following a police intervention in the Pilastro district of Bologna. The case is currently under investigation by the Bologna Prosecutor's Office, which is reconstructing the entire sequence of events and evaluating the positions of two police officers and four 118 emergency medical operators.

The family's lawyer, attorney Fabio Anselmo, outlined several doubts about the methods of the intervention during a press conference held at the Senate, organized by Senator Ilaria Cucchi under the title "Truth and justice for Abderrahim Fakir." Yossra Fakir, the victim's niece, also attended the conference.

Anselmo invited those present to carefully examine the audio of a video recorded by a witness, which captured the police intervention. According to the lawyer, the dialogue between 118 operators audible in the recording suggests that Fakir was still agonizing, and perhaps not yet deceased, at the moment the officers stood up after pinning him to the ground. This reconstruction is a hypothesis advanced by the family's legal counsel, not an established fact.

Anselmo further noted that, based on his reading of the video, no one came to Fakir's aid nor untied him after the officers stood up. The lawyer called for clarification as to why the man remained handcuffed, hands and feet, during that phase.

Regarding the restraint techniques used by police, the attorney stated that these are potentially dangerous procedures, to be used in extreme cases and to be promptly discontinued when the subject no longer poses a threat. He also expressed criticism of the legal shield for law enforcement, arguing that it hinders the establishment of truth.

Mario Balzanelli, president of the Italian 118 System Society, told ANSA news agency that, had a doctor arrived promptly on the scene, Fakir could likely have been saved.

The Bologna Prosecutor's Office continues its investigation to determine the dynamics of the intervention and the responsibilities of those involved.
