New video footage has emerged showing the moments immediately after the death of Abderrahim Fakir, the 42-year-old who died during a police stop on Sunday in the Pilastro district of Bologna. In the video, a female officer from the forensic police lifts the sheet covering the body of the man, whose ankles are still bound. Fakir appears lying on his back with his mouth open. Blood is visible under his head and traces are also present on his face.

The forensic consultant for the Fakir family, Vittorio Fineschi, called for caution regarding the cause of death, stating that further examinations are needed. The family's lawyer, Fabio Anselmo, attributed the presence of blood to the actions of the two officers, arguing that the blood found in the lungs was inhaled as a result of beatings and questioning the relevance of the cocaine traces detected in initial toxicological tests, which he described as unreliable and conducted merely to steer the investigation.

The lawyers for the two police officers rejected all accusations. Defense attorney Gabriele Bordoni stated that, based on bodycam footage, he identified the moment when Fakir sustained lacerations to the back of his head: according to Bordoni, this occurred when Fakir broke free from the officer's hold, scraped against the asphalt back and forth, and bit an officer's calf. Bordoni described the injuries as minor and noted they were not flagged as significant in the autopsy. He also suggested that part of the discoloration on the face could be attributed to pepper spray, which has a reddish tint and may have mixed with blood.

Initial autopsy results reportedly found traces of cocaine in Fakir's body and no fractures. The investigation remains ongoing, pending the completion of further toxicological and forensic examinations.

According to La Stampa, the mayor of Bologna also commented on the case, denouncing online hate speech related to the incident.
