On July 8, 2026, the leaders of the opposition "campo largo" coalition held their first public rally in Piazza del Gesù, Naples, under the slogan "At work to change Italy." Pd secretary Elly Schlein, M5S president Giuseppe Conte, and Avs leaders Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni shared the stage for the second symbolic group photo, after a previous one taken at a restaurant in June, marking the launch of the electoral campaign ahead of the next political elections.

During the event, two separate protest episodes occurred. Before the rally began, a group of about fifty unemployed people from the "7 November" movement tried to occupy the stage, chanting "work, work," demanding the resumption of internship programs suspended due to administrative anomalies. Police intervened to restore order.

Subsequently, activists from the Potere al Popolo party interrupted the speeches from the floor, shouting "shame" and "buffoons" at the coalition leaders. The rally was suspended for about ten to fifteen minutes. Conte attempted to address the protesters directly from the stage, inviting them to dialogue. Fratoianni went into the crowd to mediate. Bonelli, from the stage, accused the protesters of indirectly helping the political right. The rally then resumed and concluded regularly.

Potere al Popolo spokesperson Giuliano Granato later explained the reasons for the protest, stating the need for a genuine alternative field serving the majority of the country rather than a small oligarchy, otherwise risking handing victory to the right again.

In the evening, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed solidarity with the "campo largo" leaders via social media, stating that the freedom to organize and hold a political rally is a principle that must always apply to everyone.

From the stage, the leaders outlined key messages. Schlein said they would "never again do the right the favor of dividing us" and announced they would "go united to win the next elections." Conte proposed going to government with "an alliance for the Constitution" and announced that the minimum wage would be the first measure of a potential government. The leaders identified the Constitution as the common reference point and cited shared parliamentary proposals including the minimum wage, equal parental leave, opposition to electoral law reform, and reduction of working hours at equal pay.

Fratoianni announced that the next rally will be in Padua on July 15, followed by a nationwide tour starting in September. Meanwhile, some observers noted that on the same day, M5S members in the European Parliament in Strasbourg voted alongside Lega and Vannacci on certain issues, a fact highlighted by some commentators as pointing to internal contradictions within the coalition.

The event, despite the disruptions, represented the first open-air public demonstration of the opposition coalition, which had previously met only in private settings.
