Four people lost their lives in workplace incidents within a few hours, across Northern and Central Italy.

In San Giorgio di Nogaro, in the province of Udine, along the Venice-Trieste railway line, a 43-year-old train maneuverer was struck and killed by a train while working on the assembly of a freight convoy. The incident occurred shortly after 1 PM, just outside the station, on the stretch connecting it to the industrial zone. According to reports from Ansa, the victim, a Tunisian citizen residing in Latisana and an employee of a company specializing in railway maneuvers, reportedly stepped off a service vehicle and was then hit by an empty regional train passing on an adjacent track. Among the hypotheses under investigation is that of an error: the worker may have stepped off on the wrong side of the convoy as the train was approaching. Polfer, the Scientific Police of the Udine Police Headquarters, firefighters, and 118 emergency personnel responded to the scene. The incident led to the suspension of the Venice-Trieste line, with delays, cancellations, and replacement services throughout the afternoon.

A few hours earlier, in San Matteo delle Chiaviche, in the Mantua area, a 49-year-old Albanian worker died of electrocution while clearing a poplar grove damaged by severe weather. The man reportedly touched a high-voltage cable that had fallen to the ground, going into cardiac arrest. Rescue efforts by medical personnel and an air ambulance were unsuccessful. Investigations are ongoing to clarify the exact dynamics of the incident.

In the Florence area, two waste collection workers died of sudden illness. A 55-year-old man died at 7 AM in Barberino del Mugello while carrying out door-to-door collection, while a 42-year-old was found lifeless in the evening in Bagno a Ripoli, near his service vehicle. The two were employed by different companies working as contractors for Alia, the waste collection company for Florence and its province. Alia confirmed the preventive measures already adopted due to the heat wave, including the suspension of services during the hottest hours, and urged contracting companies to comply with the company protocol.
