In the night between Friday and Saturday, shortly after midnight, an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 was recorded by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) with epicenter near Pizzone, a small municipality in the province of Isernia, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The shock was felt distinctly not only in the Molise region, particularly in the Upper Volturno Valley and the Isernia area, but also in the provinces of Chieti and L'Aquila in Abruzzo, in some areas of Lazio, and as far as the province of Caserta in Campania. Several people, frightened, left their homes and went out into the streets. According to initial checks, no damage to people or property has been reported. At 3:41 AM, INGV recorded a second, lighter shock of magnitude 2.2, again in the Pizzone area, at a depth of 9 kilometers. The affected area is located at the border between Molise, Abruzzo and Lazio, and falls within zones classified as having very high seismic hazard, as shown by the INGV national seismic hazard map. The authorities continue to monitor the situation, with no further disruptions or critical issues reported so far.
