A 36-year-old man, Yassine Mirinioui, died after being stabbed on the Prolungamento beach in Savona on Sunday. According to initial reconstructions, the stabbing followed a dispute over a spot on the beach, in the presence of numerous bathers. The victim was struck in the abdomen and taken to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He did not regain consciousness and died during the night between Sunday and Monday.

The suspected attacker, a 52-year-old Italian man, left the scene after the incident. He was located and stopped by police patrol cars in a bar in the Lambrate area of Milan. According to reports, the man himself called 112 to report his location. He was then taken to the police headquarters for questioning by the mobile squad. The judge for preliminary investigations subsequently validated the arrest, accepting the prosecutor's request.

The victim had been camping for several days with a small tent on the free beach. The magistrate in charge of the investigation, Luca Traversa, ordered an autopsy on the body. In the hours following the death, white flowers were placed near the tent where Yassine had died.
